Special Communication
  Opening the Second Degree

Tuesday, June 11th, 6024 A.·.L.·.

Saint Paul Lodge Number Three will be holding a Special Communication on the date indicated above, opening on the Second Degree. This Communication will include our customary periods of silence, musical selections, and will feature a special lecture on the Symbolism and Meaning of the Second Degree,  presented by Worshipful Brother Clay Anderson.

We can easily overlook the Fellowcraft Degree, hiding between the initiatory symbolism of the Entered Apprentice degree and the drama of the Master Mason degree. When we first experience it, the complexity of the symbolism might overwhelm us. In Masonic symbolism, the Fellowcraft represents a mature worker, competent in his work, although not yet a Master. Studying the degree in depth can help us to understand the overall progression of the Blue Lodge degrees.

On June 11, 2024, Worshipful Brother Clarence "Clay" Anderson, the 2024 recipient of the Duane E. Anderson Award for Excellence in Masonic Education, will present his thoughts on the meaning and significance of the Fellowcraft Degree.

What does "off or from" mean? Why does Amos say the Lord stood upon a wall made with a plumb-line? What can we say about the symbols of the Fellowcraft degree that isn't explicit in the ritual? Why do the stairs wind? Shouldn't we talk about Gothic architecture instead of Roman pillars? Why do we talk about an ear of corn hung near a waterford? Does the whole Fellowcraft Degree center upon the Letter G?

All Master Masons in good standing are welcome and encouraged to attend.  By order of the Master, all properly vouched-for Fellowcrafts are also welcome attend.  A Fellowcraft is properly vouched-for when accompanied by a Master Mason who was present when their Second Degree was conferred.

Please arrive no later than 5:45 pm so we may open promptly at 6:30 pm. Attire is black tie or dark conservative business suit with white shirt.  A light meal in the Temple will  follow the Communication.

The deadline for registrations is the Sunday immediately prior to the event.  All Officers are requested to register immediately.

Please register on the Saint Paul Lodge Number Three website.  We request that all registrations, including regrets and those who cannot stay for the meal, RSVP on the website or by clicking the "not attending" button in the emailed summons.  If you have any problems or questions logging on please email the lodge Secretary at secretary@saintpaullodge.org.
